Before starting as the Inverness Community Connector, I worked Learning Support in an FE College in England. There I was responsible for assessing students with disabilities. I also ensuring that they received the right type of support to complete their course. I met some fabulous students, worked with some great people and made some lovely friends there.
A little bit about me: well, I was born in Whitby on the coast of North Yorkshire 41 years’ ago, and spent most of my childhood travelling around the continent as an army child. I have 3 grown up sons, and 2 cats. As an older learner I went back into education, and have a Master’s degree in English.

My past Work Experience has included:
Most of my adult life has been spent either working with or advocating for folk with some kind of disability.
I have worked in Hostels where people have had mental
health problems, including drug and alcohol issues.
I have worked with older folk with dementia and other disabilities and with younger disabled folk, and have undertaken all sorts of training.

For three years i had the opportunity to teach part-time for the University of Hull, Scarborough campus, and met some wonderful friends there.
What makes my heart sing:
The Highlands- as it is probably the most beautiful part of
Scotland if not the UK.
I am passionate about Archery, and have been known
to also do a little horse-riding!
Though not particularly sporty, I hope to take up far more
activities whilst living and working in the Highlands.

I get the biggest thrill watching someone’s face when they achieve an ambition they thought they were not capable of doing! I expect to see a lot of that in my role as Community Connector!
